I've been reticent to speak even though I have lots to say, so instead I'll just start with an introduction. Stephanie's post finally clicked a name into place for me. I'll be writing under the name Sui Sin Far, a 19th century Asian American author. Her given name is Edith Eaton but Sui Sin Far is the Cantonese name for the narcissus flower. Her father, from Chesire England, and her mother, from Shanghai China, raised her and her 13 siblings in New York and Quebec. Far first wrote for the Montreal Star and the Daily Witness. She also lived in San Francisco, Seattle and Boston. She published Mrs. Spring Fragrance in 1912, a collection of short stories about the Chinese American experience under the then-current policy of the Asian Exclusion legislation. Anyway to say the least, I related to what she wrote about and it was so cool that she was a fair hapa lady back in the day.You can probably look forward to comments regarding (multi)race theory, educational practices, and thoughts from traveling.
I love your choice of pen name. I did some research on - she seems like a pretty remarkable individual. Very appropriate choice!
